The ClosureFAST catheter has been shown in a multi-center study to have a 97.4 % efficacy rate at one-year and is highly effective. The RECOVERY Trial, a multi-center comparative randomized trial between the Closure procedure and endovenous lasers (EVL), found the VNUS ClosureFAST™ patients to have less pain and less bruising. Because treatment with the Coviden VNUS Closure system is also minimally invasive it is cosmetically appealing and results in little to no scarring.
The difference with the VNUS technology and laser surgery is the temperature. The VNUS ClosureFAST system operates at about 220ºF while the laser works at about 700 – 900 ºF.

Another example of this technology is illustrated in this experiment performed in a piece of liver which shows the VNUS ClosureFAST™ catheter on top, a laser system in the middle and the earlier version of the VNUS Closure system on the bottom. This liver model does not show the tissue protective tissue effects of tumescent anesthesia but the speed and effectiveness of the radiofrequency energy source are clearly seen.
Randomized comparative studies have shown that patients receiving the Closure procedure return to normal activity and work significantly faster than those receiving vein stripping. The CIVIQ2 QOL (Quality of Life) survey confirmed patients experienced significantly less pain, fewer physical limitations, and faster improvement to QOL when treated with ClosureFAST. In our hands this is a wonderful system which appeals to women and patients with smaller varicose veins and they are uniformly delighted with the results.
